Fine 5 Dance Theatre is one of the best-known and the most influential contemporary dance companies in Estonia. It is non-profit and project based dance company. Theatre was founded in 1992 when five dancers (Anu Ruusmaa, Katrin Laur, Tiina Ollesk, Oleg Ostanin and René Nõmmik) formed their own troupe. In early 90-ies their work was influenced by traditional modern dance techniques, since the end of 90-ies the working methods have changed, combining various approaches to human movement, somatics and dance as an art form. In 1994 Fine 5 opened the first contemporary dance school in Estonia.
Since 1997, the key figures of theatre are Rene Nõmmik and Tiina Ollesk. Over the years they have produced more than 40 productions and created unique movement language. Tiina and Rene have won several contemporary choreography prizes at Vitebsk IFMC (1992, 1993, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2010), their works have been nominated 8 times as best contemporary dance production in Estonia and in 2009 they became laureates of the Theatre Union Prize for the Best Dance Production. Fine 5 Dance School students have won “free dance” category of “Schooldance” contest in 1997, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006.
Theatre works with small stage and experimental productions as well as creating works for big stages and festivals. Since 2005 company hasparticipated at Birgitta Festival in Tallinn performing their own production of C.Orff`s “Carmina burana” for 5 years and G.Verdi`s
“Requiem” for 2 years.
Fine 5 has worked with many reputable choreographers like T.Kitti (Finland), D.Tinazzi (USA-Italy), C.-Y.Roulin (Switzerland), A.Suzuki (Japan), M. Moles (Belgium) etc. The company has performed in USA, France, Italy, Sweden, South-Korea, Cypros, Finland, Poland, Baltic States, Russia and Belorussia.
