"Phases - ReMake"
"Phases" by Fine 5 Dance Theatre, premiered in Estonian New Art Museum in 2008, examines the thoughts and traces we leave behind and how they influence our surrounding environment. Choreographers Tiina Ollesk and Renee Nõmmik were inspired by contemporary minimalistic music and from the specific energetic music language of Steve Reich. In Reich`s music, minimalism is mixed with rhythmic impulsiveness which, as a result, creates a contemporary and dynamic sound. As reflection to the mood of the performance sound artist Shawn Pinchbeck has created an interactive space where the actions of dancers are combined with sounds in unpredictable way. The concept of "Phases" is based on a phrase by L. Wittgenstein: "How small a thought it takes to fill a whole life".
In 2009 "Phases" won the Estonian Theatre Union award of the "Dance production of the year" and in 2014 the piece is remade.
